Comments:
This was actually a freeform project - the only requirement was that it had to be approved by the instructor. I really wanted to get more experience animating in Flash, so I came up with this idea. It was a win-win, because I didn't have to make extra commutes to school to checkout/return a camera or digitize video. I built the video scene-by-scene in Flash and exported Quicktime movies of each scene and edited them together using FCP. The kinetic type was done first using LiveType, with the Flash animation following. Photoshop and Illustrator were both used to create objects or people to use. One of the hardest things was animating the train around the curve. I still haven't figured out a good way to do that - but that's why there's a lot of smoke. This would be much more fun to do without a deadline.
